Mauritius will create National Health Infrastructure Ltd as a government-owned private company to oversee health facilities, medical equipment and vehicles, according to an official announcement published on 28 October. Its remit will cover planning, design, implementation, operation and maintenance.

The Health and Wellness Ministry currently manages five regional hospitals, six specialised hospitals, two district hospitals and two community hospitals. Its network also includes 12 mediclinics, 105 area or community health centres, seven health offices and a warehouse in Plaine Lauzun.

The company is intended to give upgrading, renovation, replacement and maintenance work a dedicated organisational structure. The notice does not specify a budget or operational start date. The facility counts describe the existing ministry network, rather than new buildings approved through the announcement.
