The handbook “Use of Radio Spectrum for Meteorology: Weather, Climate, Water and Related Environmental Applications” updates guidance on frequencies that support meteorological systems. Satellite sensors, weather radar, lightning-location systems, air and marine observations, and hydrological monitoring rely on these bands.

The ITU and WMO said harmful radio interference can reduce the accuracy and availability of environmental data. The joint publication brings technical, operational and regulatory guidance together to support spectrum-management decisions.
