# Italian business value added rose 2.5% in nominal terms in 2024

> The number of Italian industrial and service businesses rose 0.5% to more than 4.5 million in 2024, while nominal value added increased 2.5%, Istat reported.

Italy had just over 4.5 million industrial and service businesses in 2024, up 0.5% from a year earlier; service businesses increased 0.8%. Their nominal value added topped €1,100 billion, up 2.5%. Services rose 4.2% and industry in the strict sense 0.6%, while construction fell 0.5%.

Employment increased 1.1%, including a 1.3% rise in services. Companies belonging to business groups generated 66.4% of turnover and 58.7% of industrial and service value added. Istat published the figures on 15 October 2026; the value-added change is nominal, not adjusted for price effects.
