India has sent a central investigation team after a 19-month-old male cheetah associated with Kuno National Park died from firearm pellet injuries on 27 October. The environment ministry reported the action on 28 October and identified the animal as KNG22.

The cheetah was found injured outside Kuno’s protected area on 25 October and received veterinary treatment and emergency surgery in Jabalpur, according to the account. Five pellets were removed during surgery, but the animal subsequently died from its injuries.

The central team includes officials from the National Tiger Conservation Authority and Wildlife Crime Control Bureau. It will coordinate with Madhya Pradesh officials and examine protection and monitoring arrangements. The state has also formed a task force involving forest and police officers. The report does not identify a convicted offender or establish the investigation’s final findings.
