India’s Directorate of Revenue Intelligence reported on 28 October that it seized around 55,000 e-cigarettes at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata on 24 October. The agency valued the seized products at 135 million rupees.

Officers intercepted two Nepal-bound transshipment containers following intelligence, the agency said. It reported finding 40,000 e-cigarettes in one container and around 15,000 in the other, concealed among cargo declared as water glasses and ceramic mugs.

The products and covering cargo were seized under customs provisions, according to the account. The directorate separately reported about 300,000 e-cigarettes seized nationally during financial year 2026–27 to date, worth more than 1.2 billion rupees. Those wider totals concern multiple operations; the statement does not report a court conviction arising from the Kolkata seizure.
