India's environment ministry said recovery work has been under way since 2018. Beyond this release, the programme reports that more than 800 chital were released to support the prey base and about 380 hectares of grassland were restored or converted over the past eight years.

The ministry said the animal would be monitored after release through telemetry, camera traps and field observation to assess movement, adaptation, health and behaviour. It also reported engagement with 64 Eco-Development and Joint Forest Management committees.

Methodology: Figures are transcribed from India's environment ministry release of 2 October 2026. The source qualifiers 'more than 800' and 'approximately 380 hectares' are retained; a release alone does not establish a resident, self-sustaining population.
