Mexico’s Social Security Institute (IMSS) said on 11 October that a 48-year-old patient had received a successful heart transplant at La Raza hospital in Mexico City. The institute described it as the hospital unit’s eighth successful heart transplant of the year and said the patient had dilated cardiomyopathy, for which transplantation was considered the only treatment option.

IMSS said the donor heart was coordinated from Culiacán to reach the hospital within the clinical window of less than six hours from removal to implantation. The institute said transport was coordinated while Hurricane Polo was affecting the Pacific coast and that the patient was recovering favorably after surgery. The release does not give the operation date, and the reported clinical outcome is the institute’s account.

## Data

### La Raza heart transplant and organ transport

Completed surgery and organ-transport logistics reported by IMSS on 11 October.

Methodology: IMSS’s 11 October 2026 bulletin says transport was coordinated so the heart would arrive within the clinical window of less than six hours from removal to implantation. This is not a measured actual transport duration. Because the surgery date is unstated, the article event date is the source-review date; clinical status is attributed to the institute.

### Clinical transplant time window

Window applies to elapsed time from heart removal to implantation.

Methodology: IMSS says transplantation needed to occur within less than six hours and transport was coordinated around that clinical window. The 6-hour value is only an upper bound; it is not a measured actual transport or transplant duration.

| Metric | Value | Qualifier |
|---|---|---|
| Time from heart removal to implantation | 6 | Clinical upper bound: less than 6 hours |
