The International Energy Agency’s National Climate Resilience Assessment for Kenya, published on 25 September, identifies floods and landslides as significant risks to infrastructure and reliable power supply. Flooding during the long-rains season can damage electricity networks and submerge roads used to transport fuel.

Under the IEA’s Above 3°C scenario, 95% of Kenya’s existing grid could face up to a 20% increase in heavy rainfall by mid-century compared with pre-industrial conditions. This is a scenario projection; it does not describe damage that has already occurred or a certain rainfall increase.

## Data

### Electricity grid rainfall exposure

IEA mid-century grid exposure projection under its Above 3°C scenario.

Methodology: Scenario share reported in the IEA assessment; it is not an observed outcome.

| label | value | unit | period | basis |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Share of existing grid that could face heavier rainfall | 95 | percent | 2050 | forecast |
