# IBM outlines early PDK plans for 0.7nm nanostack technology

> IBM said it plans an early process design kit (PDK) so chip designers can explore its 0.7nm nanostack transistor architecture. The first version is expected in the first quarter of 2027 for research and development.

According to IBM Research’s October 13 post, the PDK will include design models, rules and libraries. Potential participants include fabless chip companies, EDA vendors, equipment suppliers and research organizations; the aim is to enable design-technology co-optimization before the process is ready for broad use.

This early version will not be a mature PDK for commercial production. IBM says nanostack moves from a two-dimensional nanosheet arrangement to three-dimensional transistor-level stacking, requiring design work on resistance, capacitance, thermal behavior and interactions between upper and lower devices.
