Operating income was 777 million dollars, giving a margin of 28.7%. Adjusted operating income was 786 million dollars with a margin of 29.1%. Cash from operations totalled 709 million dollars, and free cash flow was 562 million dollars after 147 million dollars of capital expenditure. These measures cover different aspects of profitability and cash generation.

The company repurchased 500 million dollars of common shares during the quarter. On 28 October, its board authorised another 5 billion dollars for the repurchase programme. The additional authorisation permits future purchases; it does not mean that the full amount had already been spent.
