Researchers at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital studied OpenEvidence use by about 950,000 US physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners. Published in JAMA on 15 October, the study reported that monthly active users rose from 355 to 703,265 between January 2024 and June 2026, and that practitioners submitted 270 million queries.

Classification of a random sample of 38.8 million queries found that 51.9% concerned clinical decision-making, particularly treatment and management, while 13.9% concerned diagnosis. The study measures use of one platform; it does not test whether patient outcomes improved. The researchers said that question remains for future work.
