Gevo said on October 22 that its carbon business is expected to generate more than $50 million in revenue in 2026, excluding U.S. federal incentives such as the Section 45Z Clean Fuel Production Credit. The Colorado-based company said about $20 million of the expected revenue was unlocked in the third quarter by selling essentially all of its banked Canadian Clean Fuel Regulations credits, which had been generated from qualifying low-carbon ethanol volumes delivered in 2025 and the first half of 2026.

Separately, Gevo estimates that the carbon business could contribute about $30 million in annual revenue at current production rates and market conditions, excluding the previously banked Canadian credits. The company says its carbon activity includes compliance and voluntary markets. Its North Dakota operation captures fermentation carbon dioxide and stores it underground; the company says the process can generate removal credits that buyers acquire. It also cited spot and multi-year transactions through market intermediaries, including ClimeFi and CEEZER.

Gevo said it had contracted to sell $70 million worth of Section 45Z credits for 2026, substantially all of those it expects to produce from renewable natural gas and low-carbon ethanol this year. Those tax credits are a separate revenue source from the carbon-business estimate and should not be conflated with sales of fuel or carbon-removal credits. The company also said a project to raise ethanol capacity and carbon capture at Gevo North Dakota by 10% to 15% was on track for commissioning in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The outlook is management guidance rather than a reported full-year result. The projected $30 million annual amount assumes current output and market conditions; the company says expansion could approximately double capacity, but that project is planned for completion in 2028 and remains subject to investment and execution decisions. Gevo's release does not provide an independently verified breakdown of the estimated carbon revenue by credit type or customer.

The company also reported a distinct Section 45Z tax-credit line. Its October 1 release said it had contracted $70 million worth of 2026 tax credits and received more than $30 million in cash through September 30, with the remainder expected over the following six months. That tax-credit monetization is not the same as the carbon-business figure in the October 22 headline. Earlier in July, Gevo described completing a Canadian CFR carbon-intensity pathway for ethanol with carbon capture and sequestration and starting sales of credits linked to already delivered volumes. The October update thus reflects monetization of compliance attributes alongside ongoing production, rather than a new fuel output figure.

## Data

### Gevo carbon-business revenue outlook

Company estimates for carbon-business revenue in 2026 and at current operating rates.

Methodology: Figures are company-reported estimates and outlook, not audited segment results. The 2026 amount includes monetization of previously banked Canadian CFR credits; the annualized figure excludes those credits and assumes current production and market conditions. Background context from separate dated official filings or agency pages is identified in the article and is not presented as part of the new announcement.
