An October 18 statement from her office schedules the proposal for the Conference of Presidents on Tuesday, October 20; it does not announce that a committee has been established. The proposed inquiry would examine the methods of groups involved in the violence and the public-order response. Braun-Pivet also called for scrutiny of how the events were anticipated, the scale of the deployed response and policing doctrine. The statement says the work should help protect public safety alongside the freedom to demonstrate. ## Data ### French Assembly speaker to propose inquiry into October 17 unrest Methodology: October 18 statement.
