A 12 October FAO article examined how Indigenous Peoples’ monitoring approaches could be reflected in national and global reporting on Target 2 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, which concerns restoring degraded ecosystems. It describes Indigenous Peoples as rights-holders, knowledge-holders and decision-makers, rather than solely as data contributors.

FAO reported that a regional capacity-development workshop in Mexico City on 1–3 September discussed links between restoration, knowledge and monitoring. The article also described an ongoing global call for inputs and a regional kick-off workshop planned in the Philippines; it did not present the Philippines meeting as having already taken place. Topics include community-based monitoring, biocultural indicators, consent and Indigenous data sovereignty.
