A comparison published by Eurostat on 2 October put the share of eligible women aged 50–69 who had received mammography in the previous two years at 82.1% in Denmark, 82.0% in Sweden and 81.6% in Finland. Hungary was at the lower end, at 27.2%. Sweden's national programme covers a different age range, 40–74.

Against 2019, rates rose in nine EU countries with available data, led by a 12.5 percentage-point increase in Slovakia. Rates were unchanged in Sweden and Finland and fell in 11 other countries; Malta recorded the largest decline, 21.8 percentage points. The figures are administrative data from national screening programmes. Bulgaria and Romania have no national programme, and Greece has no rate data, so country coverage is incomplete. The rates measure programme-based screening, not cancer outcomes.

## Data

### EU breast-cancer screening indicators

Selected country rates and changes since 2019 from the 2024 programme data reported by Eurostat on 2 October 2026.

Methodology: The rate is the share of women aged 50–69 eligible for an organised programme who had mammography in the prior two years; Sweden's programme covers ages 40–74. Changes are percentage points. Bulgaria and Romania have no national programme and Greece has no rate data, so they are not included in this comparison; these indicators do not measure clinical outcomes.
