WHO and Ethiopia’s Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) discussed cooperation to strengthen national regulatory capacity for medicines and medical devices.

The discussion focused on EFDA’s effort to reach WHO maturity level 3 for medical-device regulation, defined as a stable, well-functioning and integrated regulatory system. WHO reaffirmed technical support through its benchmarking tool.

A bilateral meeting on 16 September brought together the WHO representative to Ethiopia, the African Union and the UN Economic Commission for Africa with EFDA’s director general. The announcement did not say the target level had been attained.
