DTE Energy and sonnen announced a two-year residential battery virtual power plant pilot in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on 29 October 2026. The programme at Veridian at County Farm is intended to connect nearly 100 homes virtually through coordinated battery systems.

The companies said the Michigan Public Service Commission had approved the pilot. DTE will assess how batteries can support periods of high electricity demand and help with reliability and system costs. The wider Veridian development has 170 homes; that figure is different from the pilot’s planned participation.
