The Democratic Republic of the Congo launched drinking-water works in Kananga on October 5, according to a statement from the minister for hydraulic resources and electricity reported by the Congolese Press Agency. The project includes a new Lulua treatment plant, rehabilitation and expansion of the Kanyuka plant, and reinforcement of the distribution network.

The ministry said the infrastructure is designed for nominal production of 125,000 cubic metres of water per day, with an ambition to serve nearly 1.5 million residents. The overall World Bank investment was put at about $164 million. These are project targets and estimated financing; the foundation-stone ceremony does not mean the planned capacity is already operating.
