University of Delaware researchers validated a proteomics method that digests proteins inside methanol-fixed plant tissue instead of grinding tissue and isolating proteins first. The approach preserves pathology information within cells while allowing proteins to be identified and measured.

The team applied it to healthy and fungus-infected tobacco leaves, finding immune-related proteins in plant cell-to-cell communication vesicles and toxic proteins in vesicles from the fungal pathogen. The university says more than 15 campus laboratories have used the platform, which is licensed to a supplier. It may support plant-disease research; it is not a field-validated diagnostic test or treatment.

## Data

### In-tissue proteomics method

Proteins were digested and measured within methanol-fixed plant tissue.

Methodology: The method was demonstrated on healthy and fungus-infected tobacco leaves; the source does not report a field test or treatment.

### Source-reported indicators

Proteins were digested and measured within methanol-fixed plant tissue.

Methodology: Values retain the source basis. Annual feed figures are 2025 sector estimates; the October seed count uses the deposit period. Other dates identify report publication, not experiment day. Laboratory oil-holding capacity is not nutritional fat content; counts do not establish production or scale-up success.
