# China’s manufacturing PMI rose to 49.8 in August

> China’s manufacturing purchasing managers’ index reached 49.8 in August, 0.6 points above July. It remained below the 50 threshold.

The National Bureau of Statistics and China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing reported a production index of 50.4 and a new orders index of 50.6. Both sub-indexes rose from July.

The manufacturing survey covers 3,200 enterprises and the published indexes are seasonally adjusted. Index levels are not production growth rates; a PMI below 50 signals contraction compared with the preceding month.
