Statistics Canada’s monthly balance sheet records marketable production of 17.765 billion cubic metres, up from 16.525 billion in August 2025. The agency released the August data on October 23; the figures describe the reference month, not the release date. Exports totalled 7.556 billion cubic metres, compared with 7.302 billion a year earlier. Deliveries to consumers reached 9.472 billion cubic metres, up from 8.986 billion. Industrial consumption accounted for 8.722 billion cubic metres of August deliveries, compared with 8.226 billion in August 2025. These are physical volumes, not values of gas sold, and the table does not identify the causes of the annual changes. Imports were 2.297 billion cubic metres, against 2.179 billion a year earlier. The series separates supply and disposition: production and imports are supply entries, while exports and consumer deliveries are disposition entries. Those figures should not be added into a simple net measure without accounting for other balance-sheet lines, including storage movements, processing-plant deliveries, pipeline fuel and adjustments. Storage inventories closed August at 28.081 billion cubic metres, compared with 28.127 billion at the end of August 2025. The stock rose from 25.793 billion cubic metres at July’s close, a within-year increase of about 8.9%. This comparison is a change in the recorded inventory stock, whereas monthly production, imports, exports and deliveries are flows. The table reports both cubic-metre and energy-content series; this article uses only the cubic-metre observations. The monthly table’s unit is thousands of cubic metres. Values in this report convert those observations into billions by dividing the published values by one million; percentage changes are calculated from the same table’s unrounded monthly values. The calculation is descriptive and does not seasonally adjust the series. It should not be read as a forecast, an assessment of reserves, or a measure of household gas bills. Statistics Canada’s Daily notice says August transmission, storage and distribution data are available and links to table 25-10-0086-01. The CSV includes monthly supply and disposition categories, units, geography and status fields. The downloaded August rows used here identify Canada and carry numeric values without a suppression or estimate status marker. The figures are national aggregates and do not show provincial differences or individual pipeline routes. The year-over-year comparison gives context to the scale of the recorded flows, while the inventory comparison shows a different part of the system: the amount held in storage at a point in time. Because these measures have distinct roles and no causal decomposition is provided in the release, they cannot alone establish whether supply was tight or abundant.
