Gains were recorded in 12 of 21 subsectors. Primary metal sales rose 14.0% and chemical sales increased 4.4%, while a 2.6% decline in transportation equipment partly offset the gains. Current-dollar sales were 14.2% higher than a year earlier. In contrast, total sales measured in constant dollars, which remove price effects, were unchanged over the month.
