On 25 September, the federal government announced up to C$162 million for Mitacs over five years starting in 2026–27. The programme will support 10,000 co-funded work placements for post-secondary students, recent graduates and postdoctoral fellows.

Two programme streams will support business AI adoption and applied research. The announcement links the Mitacs partnership to the wider federal AI strategy; 10,000 is a planned placement target, not a reported employment outcome.
