# Canada’s border agency and Frontex sign new cooperation arrangement

> The Canada Border Services Agency and Frontex signed a new working arrangement on operational cooperation in Montréal on 30 October during the Canada–European Union summit. Its scope includes migrant smuggling, human trafficking, document and identity fraud, research, technology, joint training and professional exchanges. The release also describes information and analysis sharing through EUROSUR, the European Border Surveillance System, and says privacy and data-protection safeguards will accompany the cooperation.

The arrangement builds on a relationship that began with a first working agreement signed in Warsaw in October 2010. The agency says the new signing completes an action item from the 2025 Canada–EU summit and supports the broader security and defence partnership. It is an operational-cooperation arrangement, rather than an announcement of new immigration eligibility rules.
