# First phase of British Columbia’s North Coast transmission line begins

Natural Resources Canada announced on 3 September that Phase 1 of the North Coast Transmission Line had broken ground. The project expands an existing transmission corridor from Prince George to Terrace.

Phase 1 covers a 165-kilometre, 500-kilovolt line between the Williston and Glenannan substations. Federal and provincial governments committed C$3.9 billion toward the first two phases; the announcement also outlined broader economic and employment expectations.
