Brazil’s Ministry of Justice and Public Security and Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship launched a guide to artificial-intelligence use in childhood and adolescence on 15 October. The ministries say it was prepared with UNESCO cooperation and technical advice from the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco. It describes AI through four roles in young people’s lives: as a toy, a companion, a curator of content and a creator of text, images, audio or video.

The guide gives separate recommendations to families, children and teenagers, and educators. Its subjects include privacy, mental health, emotional ties to automated systems, deepfakes, sextortion and critical thinking. The ministry announcement cites the 2025 TIC Kids Online Brazil survey: 65% of internet users aged 9–17 had used generative AI for at least one purpose. The survey reports 59% used it for schoolwork or study, 42% to seek information, 21% to create content and 10% to discuss personal problems or emotions; the uses can overlap.
