# AWS outlines a genomic workflow for querying resistance genes

> An AWS reference architecture dated October 12 processes public sequencing reads from NCBI SRA with HealthOmics and makes resistance-gene results queryable in natural language. It is a demonstration architecture, not new surveillance data or a clinical system.

AWS published a reference architecture that takes publicly available sequencing reads from the NCBI Sequence Read Archive (SRA) through download, quality control, genome assembly and resistance-gene screening. The workflow uses fastp, SKESA and AMRFinderPlus on HealthOmics; results are normalized to the hAMRonization schema and stored in S3 Tables/Iceberg.

A Strands agent queries those tables through Amazon Athena so researchers can ask in natural language about resistance-gene profiles and trends; answers are required to include gene identifiers, the detecting tool and confidence values from the underlying data. AWS says this is a demonstration architecture deployable with CDK, not a customer deployment or clinical system; the post reports no new epidemiological findings.
