On 21 September 2026 ATCO Ltd. announced that its ATCO Frontec business, a long-time partner of the Department of National Defence, had converted a remote site in Resolute Bay, Nunavut, into a fully operational temporary base in three weeks. The base can support 350 Canadian Armed Forces personnel during Operation NANOOK-NUNAKPUT, which runs until 25 September 2026.

The temporary base covers more than 30,000 square feet and includes dormitories, dining facilities and essential amenities. ATCO said it mobilized accommodations, power generation, water and wastewater systems, airlift and freight logistics and life-support services, deploying 125 tonnes of materials and carrying out 30 airlift missions to move personnel, equipment and camp infrastructure.

The release did not state the value or terms of the Department of National Defence contract. It said ATCO also provides life-support services at Crystal City, the department’s Arctic training facility in Resolute Bay.

## Data

### Deployment figures

Deployment figures stated in ATCO Ltd.’s release of 21 September 2026.

Methodology: All figures are stated in ATCO’s release. The 350 is the number of Canadian Armed Forces personnel the temporary base can support during the operation, the 30,000 square feet is described as more than that area, and the 125 tonnes and 30 airlift missions are the materials deployed and the flights used to move personnel, equipment and camp infrastructure. The three weeks is the time ATCO says it took to convert the site. The release does not state a contract value.
