African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf chaired a “Beyond AfCRA” roundtable in Balaclava, Mauritius, alongside the launch of the Africa Credit Rating Agency. The initiative aims to coordinate a programme addressing structural governance factors that underpin the continent’s investment risk premium.

The meeting included the African Peer Review Mechanism, AU Commission, UNECA, UNOSAA, Afreximbank, the African Development Bank and multilateral finance institutions. Participants identified collaboration priorities and laid groundwork for follow-up on programme design, country engagement, governance and implementation. Planned technical support areas include fiscal and debt management, data quality, policy communication and institutional capacity; the release does not claim the process has already reduced investment risk.
