Net exports were 601.3 billion cubic feet. These figures describe physical trade flows during August, not daily transactions or spot prices on October 22. The report separates pipeline gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipped by vessel, and movements by truck and container in its detailed tables.","U.S.-produced LNG exports reached 514.6 billion cubic feet, 61.2% of total natural gas exports. The LNG went to 33 countries. Volume was 0.8% lower than in July and 14.1% above August 2025. Europe received 269.3 billion cubic feet, the largest regional destination; Asia received 158.7 billion, Africa 55.9 billion and Latin America and the Caribbean 30.7 billion. DOE also reports prices and transport modes, allowing readers to examine trade without treating total exports as if they were all LNG."],"sections":[{"heading":"Net exports and what the measure includes","paragraphs":["The report’s 841.2 billion cubic feet of total exports combines natural gas leaving the United States through different transport routes. Of that, 514.6 billion cubic feet is identified as U.S.-produced LNG exports; most of the remainder is pipeline movement. The report also separates re-exported gas and Puerto Rico movements from some summary totals. As a result, adding every line in every table will not always reproduce the summary figure exactly. The report notes independent rounding and differences in coverage.","Imports totalled 239.9 billion cubic feet in August. The Department’s country pipeline tables show 239.4 billion cubic feet entering from Canada and 0.2 billion from Mexico, while vessel LNG imports were 0.3 billion cubic feet. Exports to Mexico by pipeline and truck totalled 239.0 billion cubic feet, and exports to Canada were 87.6 billion. These neighbouring flows reflect a continental pipeline system and are distinct from growth in U.S. LNG exports.","Net exports are calculated as exports minus imports and summarize how much more natural gas crossed outward than inward during the period. August net exports rose to 601.3 billion cubic feet from 516.7 billion a year earlier. The change combined higher exports with imports falling from 245.0 billion cubic feet to 239.9 billion. The net figure alone does not explain domestic production, consumption, storage changes or pipeline capacity; those require other Department data series."]},{"heading":"LNG destinations and market distribution","paragraphs":["U.S.-produced LNG represented 61.2% of total natural gas exports in August. Total U.S.-produced LNG exports were 514.6 billion cubic feet and reached 33 countries; 514.5 billion cubic feet moved by vessel. Europe received 52.3% of total U.S.-produced LNG exports. Asia accounted for 30.8%, Africa 10.9%, and Latin America and the Caribbean 6.0%. Regional shares may not sum to exactly 100% because of rounding. The distribution records monthly destination volumes, not long-term purchase commitments or next month’s planned cargoes.","Volumes to the five leading destinations rose 5.0% from July to August and 4.2% from August 2025. That differed from the 0.8% month-to-month decline and 14.1% year-over-year increase in all U.S. LNG exports. Because this group accounted for nearly half of total LNG flows, changes among several large markets could diverge from the aggregate. The report’s country table supports this comparison but does not provide contract terms between countries or final-use data.","The Department classifies 86.1% of exports as going to countries without a U.S. free-trade agreement and 13.9% to agreement partners. This adds a trade-category view alongside destination data; it does not show which buyers signed long-term contracts or where the gas was ultimately used. The grouping reports shares by trade-agreement relationship and is not, by itself, a measure of market or policy effects.","The exit-point table also shows which facilities shipped the LNG. Sabine Pass, Louisiana, sent 118.9 billion cubic feet in 36 cargoes, while Plaquemines shipped 104.8 billion cubic feet in 29 cargoes. Corpus Christi, Texas, exported 94.1 billion cubic feet in 28 cargoes. Plaquemines volume was 34% above a year earlier and Corpus Christi was 42% higher. Together, the three terminals accounted for a large share of August vessel exports; this facility view complements the destination-country breakdown. The same terminal table records cargoes to 16 countries from Sabine Pass, 12 from Plaquemines and 15 from Corpus Christi. It reports 163 vessel cargoes to 31 countries, 86% to non-FTA markets and 7% classified as spot sales. The terminal table’s 31-country vessel scope differs from the 33-country total destination count reported elsewhere."]},{"heading":"Transport routes, border points and price coverage","paragraphs":["Nearly all LNG exports moved by vessel: the Department’s tables show 514.5 billion cubic feet by LNG vessel and a very small volume in ISO containers. Pipeline exports totalled 326.5 billion cubic feet, while truck exports were below 0.1 billion. On the import side, pipelines carried 239.6 billion cubic feet, vessels 0.3 billion and trucks less than 0.1 billion. The 514.6 billion cubic feet summary total combines 514.5 billion cubic feet of vessel exports and 0.1 billion cubic feet in ISO containers; the mode table lists those flows separately.","The price tables use different delivery terms. LNG export prices are reported FOB and include the gas and liquefaction through the U.S. export point; subsequent ocean transport is excluded. Pipeline and truck export prices include gas and transportation to the U.S. border. LNG import prices are landed, including transport and offloading, but excluding regasification. These measures do not cover the same logistics stages and should not be treated as directly comparable delivered prices.","Country and border-point details give more context to Canada and Mexico flows than the aggregate alone. Pipeline movements are recorded across multiple entry and exit points, showing where volumes crossed the border. LNG tables also distinguish by exporter, destination country and vessel movements. These data describe infrastructure links and trade geography; they do not by themselves show pipeline utilization rates or physical congestion. That requires examining capacity and flow series together."]},{"heading":"Year-to-date totals and how to read the report","paragraphs":["Natural gas exports for January through August totalled 6,622.4 billion cubic feet, 15% above the same period in 2025. Imports fell 5% to 2,060.4 billion cubic feet, and net exports reached 4,562.0 billion, up 27%. By transport mode, year-to-date vessel LNG exports grew 21% to 4,200.1 billion cubic feet and pipeline exports grew 5% to 2,420.9 billion. Pipeline imports fell 6% to 2,044.5 billion, while vessel LNG imports reached 15.2 billion cubic feet, more than five times the 2.7 billion in the same period a year earlier.","The monthly transport-mode table shows the movements behind the totals. From July to August, vessel LNG exports slipped from 518.6 to 514.5 billion cubic feet, while pipeline exports rose from 308.3 to 326.5 billion; total exports increased 2%. Pipeline imports fell 5%, vessel LNG imports 9%, and total imports declined 5%. These differences show the transport components behind the 4% rise in net exports; flow volumes do not explain price movements.","The Department says the data reflect the version available when the report was published and that subsequent revisions will appear in the next monthly report. U.S.-produced LNG reached 33 countries, with LNG exports up 14.1% from a year earlier.","text":"U.S. natural gas exports were 841.2 billion cubic feet and imports 239.9 billion in August 2026. U.S.-produced LNG reached 33 countries, with LNG exports up 14.1% from a year earlier.\n\nThe U.S. Department of Energy’s monthly report published October 22 records 841.2 billion cubic feet of natural gas exports and 239.9 billion cubic feet of imports in August 2026. Net exports were 601.3 billion cubic feet. These figures describe physical trade flows during August, not daily transactions or spot prices on October 22. The report separates pipeline gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipped by vessel, and movements by truck and container in its detailed tables.\n\nU.S.-produced LNG exports reached 514.6 billion cubic feet, 61.2% of total natural gas exports. The LNG went to 33 countries. Volume was 0.8% lower than in July and 14.1% above August 2025. Europe received 269.3 billion cubic feet, the largest regional destination; Asia received 158.7 billion, Africa 55.9 billion and Latin America and the Caribbean 30.7 billion. DOE also reports prices and transport modes, allowing readers to examine trade without treating total exports as if they were all LNG.\n\nNet exports and what the measure includes\n\nThe report’s 841.2 billion cubic feet of total exports combines natural gas leaving the United States through different transport routes. Of that, 514.6 billion cubic feet is identified as U.S.-produced LNG exports; most of the remainder is pipeline movement. The report also separates re-exported gas and Puerto Rico movements from some summary totals. As a result, adding every line in every table will not always reproduce the summary figure exactly. The report notes independent rounding and differences in coverage.\n\nImports totalled 239.9 billion cubic feet in August. The Department’s country pipeline tables show 239.4 billion cubic feet entering from Canada and 0.2 billion from Mexico, while vessel LNG imports were 0.3 billion cubic feet. Exports to Mexico by pipeline and truck totalled 239.0 billion cubic feet, and exports to Canada were 87.6 billion. These neighbouring flows reflect a continental pipeline system and are distinct from growth in U.S. LNG exports.\n\nNet exports are calculated as exports minus imports and summarize how much more natural gas crossed outward than inward during the period. August net exports rose to 601.3 billion cubic feet from 516.7 billion a year earlier. The change combined higher exports with imports falling from 245.0 billion cubic feet to 239.9 billion. The net figure alone does not explain domestic production, consumption, storage changes or pipeline capacity; those require other Department data series.\n\nLNG destinations and market distribution\n\nU.S.-produced LNG represented 61.2% of total natural gas exports in August. Total U.S.-produced LNG exports were 514.6 billion cubic feet and reached 33 countries; 514.5 billion cubic feet moved by vessel. Europe received 52.3% of total U.S.-produced LNG exports. Asia accounted for 30.8%, Africa 10.9%, and Latin America and the Caribbean 6.0%. Regional shares may not sum to exactly 100% because of rounding. The distribution records monthly destination volumes, not long-term purchase commitments or next month’s planned cargoes.\n\nVolumes to the five leading destinations rose 5.0% from July to August and 4.2% from August 2025. That differed from the 0.8% month-to-month decline and 14.1% year-over-year increase in all U.S. LNG exports. Because this group accounted for nearly half of total LNG flows, changes among several large markets could diverge from the aggregate. The report’s country table supports this comparison but does not provide contract terms between countries or final-use data.\n\nThe Department classifies 86.1% of exports as going to countries without a U.S. free-trade agreement and 13.9% to agreement partners. This adds a trade-category view alongside destination data; it does not show which buyers signed long-term contracts or where the gas was ultimately used. The grouping reports shares by trade-agreement relationship and is not, by itself, a measure of market or policy effects.\n\nThe exit-point table also shows which facilities shipped the LNG. Sabine Pass, Louisiana, sent 118.9 billion cubic feet in 36 cargoes, while Plaquemines shipped 104.8 billion cubic feet in 29 cargoes. Corpus Christi, Texas, exported 94.1 billion cubic feet in 28 cargoes. Plaquemines volume was 34% above a year earlier and Corpus Christi was 42% higher. Together, the three terminals accounted for a large share of August vessel exports; this facility view complements the destination-country breakdown. The same terminal table records cargoes to 16 countries from Sabine Pass, 12 from Plaquemines and 15 from Corpus Christi. It reports 163 vessel cargoes to 31 countries, 86% to non-FTA markets and 7% classified as spot sales. The terminal table’s 31-country vessel scope differs from the 33-country total destination count reported elsewhere.\n\nTransport routes, border points and price coverage\n\nNearly all LNG exports moved by vessel: the Department’s tables show 514.5 billion cubic feet by LNG vessel and a very small volume in ISO containers. Pipeline exports totalled 326.5 billion cubic feet, while truck exports were below 0.1 billion. On the import side, pipelines carried 239.6 billion cubic feet, vessels 0.3 billion and trucks less than 0.1 billion. The 514.6 billion cubic feet summary total combines 514.5 billion cubic feet of vessel exports and 0.1 billion cubic feet in ISO containers; the mode table lists those flows separately.\n\nThe price tables use different delivery terms. LNG export prices are reported FOB and include the gas and liquefaction through the U.S. export point; subsequent ocean transport is excluded. Pipeline and truck export prices include gas and transportation to the U.S. border. LNG import prices are landed, including transport and offloading, but excluding regasification. These measures do not cover the same logistics stages and should not be treated as directly comparable delivered prices.\n\nCountry and border-point details give more context to Canada and Mexico flows than the aggregate alone. Pipeline movements are recorded across multiple entry and exit points, showing where volumes crossed the border. LNG tables also distinguish by exporter, destination country and vessel movements. These data describe infrastructure links and trade geography; they do not by themselves show pipeline utilization rates or physical congestion. That requires examining capacity and flow series together.\n\nYear-to-date totals and how to read the report\n\nNatural gas exports for January through August totalled 6,622.4 billion cubic feet, 15% above the same period in 2025. Imports fell 5% to 2,060.4 billion cubic feet, and net exports reached 4,562.0 billion, up 27%. By transport mode, year-to-date vessel LNG exports grew 21% to 4,200.1 billion cubic feet and pipeline exports grew 5% to 2,420.9 billion. Pipeline imports fell 6% to 2,044.5 billion, while vessel LNG imports reached 15.2 billion cubic feet, more than five times the 2.7 billion in the same period a year earlier.\n\nThe monthly transport-mode table shows the movements behind the totals. From July to August, vessel LNG exports slipped from 518.6 to 514.5 billion cubic feet, while pipeline exports rose from 308.3 to 326.5 billion; total exports increased 2%. Pipeline imports fell 5%, vessel LNG imports 9%, and total imports declined 5%. These differences show the transport components behind the 4% rise in net exports; flow volumes do not explain price movements.\n\nThe Department says the data reflect the version available when the report was published and that subsequent revisions will appear in the next monthly report. Users comparing series over time should account for revisions. U.S.-produced LNG and re-exported gas are tracked separately, and some summary tables exclude Puerto Rico LNG movements. These definitions determine which flows each figure contains and should be read with the report’s table notes.","title":"DOE: U.S. net natural gas exports reached 601 Bcf in August","topics":[],"translations":[{"api_url":"https://newsverum.com/api/v1/articles/us-natural-gas-exports-net-trade-august-2026?lang=tr","language":"tr","url":"https://newsverum.com/tr/news/us-natural-gas-exports-net-trade-august-2026"},{"api_url":"https://newsverum.com/api/v1/articles/us-natural-gas-exports-net-trade-august-2026?lang=en","language":"en","url":"https://newsverum.com/en/news/us-natural-gas-exports-net-trade-august-2026"}],"url":"https://newsverum.com/en/news/us-natural-gas-exports-net-trade-august-2026"},"version":"1"}
