A small number of acres of later-seeded crops remained in fields. Harvest was 99% complete in the southwest and west-central regions, 97% in the north, 96% in the east-central region and 95% in the southeast. The report said producers continued to use available weather windows to bring in the remaining crops.","Winter rye and winter wheat were fully harvested. Among oilseeds, mustard was at 100%, canola at 96%, flax at 88% and soybeans at 74%. Spring cereals included triticale at 100%, barley and durum at 99%, oats at 98%, spring wheat at 99% and canary seed at 92%. Lentils and field peas were each at 99%, while chickpeas were fully harvested. These percentages describe estimated harvested shares of crop area; they do not measure yield or total tonnage.","Precipitation during the reporting period was limited across most of the province. Many areas recorded only trace amounts, while the Foam Lake area received 12 millimetres and Arborfield received 9 millimetres. With the growing season ending, the rain made little difference to provincial topsoil moisture conditions. Cropland topsoil was rated 84% adequate, 11% short, 1% very short and 4% surplus. Adequate ratings were lower for hayland, at 82%, and pasture, at 74%.","The relatively lower adequate ratings for hayland and pasture help explain why the report’s winter-feed assessments matter. Hay supplies were rated 20% surplus, 79% adequate and 1% short. Greenfeed was 15% surplus, 84% adequate and 1% short; straw was 20%, 79% and 1%, respectively. Silage was rated 11% surplus and 89% adequate. Feed grain was 23% surplus and 77% adequate. These are producer-reported condition ratings, not measurements of total feed inventories.","The province said increased precipitation during the growing season supported forage production and contributed to feed availability going into winter. Livestock producers were hauling bales, moving cattle home for winter and marketing animals. Field work was shifting toward autumn applications, herbicide and fertilizer use, harrowing and equipment maintenance. Strong winds and frost were identified as the main causes of crop damage during the reporting period.","The figures show broad progress but not a uniform picture across crops and regions. The 95% completion rate in the southeast contrasts with 99% in the southwest and west-central regions. Canola was at 96%, while soybeans remained at 74%, illustrating how the crop mix affects the overall pace. The report tracks progress as a percentage of harvest completed; it does not estimate how much grain or oilseed will come from the remaining fields.","Safety reminders accompanied the closing stages of harvest. The province urged producers to take care while moving machinery between fields and farmyards and asked motorists to watch for slow-moving farm equipment on roads and highways. Saskatchewan also reminded producers that its Farm Stress Line is available toll-free during a busy and stressful season. The report said no bulletin would be issued for the 20–26 October period; the final crop report of 2026 was scheduled for 5 November.","As of 19 October, near-completion of harvest and generally adequate winter-feed ratings were the main elements of the season-end picture. The 97% provincial figure does not mean every crop was at the same stage: soybeans, flax and canary seed were below the overall rate. Moisture classifications and feed ratings should also be read as separate indicators. They describe soil-moisture distribution and producers’ assessment of feed conditions, rather than crop yields or exact inventory volumes.","The printable report adds detail below the five broad regions. In the southeast, harvest ranged from 86 per cent complete in Census Division 1 to 99 per cent in Division 6; Divisions 2 and 5 stood at 98 and 95 per cent. Southwest divisions were between 98 and 100 per cent. East-central Divisions 9, 10 and 11 were at 92, 97 and 99 per cent, while the two west-central divisions were at 99 and 100 per cent. Northeast Divisions 14 and 15 were at 96 and 98 per cent, and northwest Divisions 16 and 17 at the same levels. These local estimates explain how a province-wide 97 per cent can coexist with pockets where field work remained.","Crop progress also differed within the broad oilseed and pulse categories. Soybeans were 62 per cent harvested in the southeast and 7 per cent in the northeast, compared with 74 per cent province-wide. Flax ranged from 77 per cent in the northwest to 84 per cent in the southeast; lentils were 84 per cent complete in the northwest, even though the provincial figure was 99 per cent. These district percentages are progress estimates for each crop, not comparisons of crop size: a lower completion rate does not establish that a region has more acres or more output left than another.","The regional moisture tables add another dimension to the crop progress figures. In the southeast, cropland topsoil was reported as 90 per cent adequate, with 9 per cent surplus and 1 per cent short; pasture was 94 per cent adequate and hayland 91 per cent. Southwest ratings were drier: 26 per cent of hayland and 34 per cent of pasture were short, with another 4 and 6 per cent respectively very short. In the east-central region, the table records 12 millimetres around Foam Lake and 7 millimetres near Calder. The report cautions that these are area-condition ratings and localized rainfall observations, not a province-wide measure of stored water.","The western and northern tables likewise show why the aggregate moisture percentage needs geographic context. West-central cropland was 76 per cent adequate and 23 per cent short. In the northwest, hayland and pasture were each 80 per cent adequate and 20 per cent short; reported rainfall included 4 millimetres near Parkdale and 3 millimetres near North Battleford. Northeast feed-grain ratings were 36 per cent surplus and 64 per cent adequate. These observations sit alongside the provincial winter-feed ratings, which refer to producers’ assessment of feed condition and availability. They are not interchangeable with soil moisture or with measured quantities of stored hay and grain.","The report’s map is a smoothed representation of harvest progress, rather than a boundary-by-boundary inventory. Its notes say interpolation uses inverse-distance weighting with a power of 2.5 and a fixed 300-kilometre radius. The agency warns that smoothing can alter local values and says the map is intended for regional analysis. This matters when readers compare a mapped colour with a division-level percentage: the map communicates a broad spatial pattern and is not a precise reading for an individual farm. The underlying table and its stated reporting period remain the relevant reference for the published estimates.","The published harvest percentage is a measure of field progress, not the share of a crop that has met a commercial grade or a measure of tonnes brought in. The provincial harvest tables distinguish crops combined for grain from crops harvested as feed, and also include categories for crop still standing, in swath, ready to straight-combine and other damage or weather effects. A regional comparison therefore needs to keep those categories and the report’s definition of harvest in view. The October 13–19 release gives crop completion and damage causes, but it does not report grain-grade results, yields or production totals for this week. Those measures cannot be inferred from the 97 per cent completion figure."],"sections":[]},"corrections":[{"at":"2026-10-26T03:04:51+03:00","language":"en","text":"Full Arabic, French, Spanish, German and Portuguese translations and data labels were added."}],"country":"CA","data":{"blocks":[{"description":{"ar":"قيم مختارة لاكتمال الحصاد ورطوبة التربة السطحية وتقييمات الأعلاف الشتوية في تقرير المقاطعة للفترة 13–19 أكتوبر.","de":"Ausgewählte Angaben zum Erntefortschritt, zur Oberbodenfeuchtigkeit und zu Winterfutterbewertungen aus dem Provinzbericht für den 13.–19. Southwest divisions were between 98 and 100 per cent. East-central Divisions 9, 10 and 11 were at 92, 97 and 99 per cent, while the two west-central divisions were at 99 and 100 per cent. Northeast Divisions 14 and 15 were at 96 and 98 per cent, and northwest Divisions 16 and 17 at the same levels. These local estimates explain how a province-wide 97 per cent can coexist with pockets where field work remained.\n\nCrop progress also differed within the broad oilseed and pulse categories. Soybeans were 62 per cent harvested in the southeast and 7 per cent in the northeast, compared with 74 per cent province-wide. Flax ranged from 77 per cent in the northwest to 84 per cent in the southeast; lentils were 84 per cent complete in the northwest, even though the provincial figure was 99 per cent. These district percentages are progress estimates for each crop, not comparisons of crop size: a lower completion rate does not establish that a region has more acres or more output left than another.\n\nThe regional moisture tables add another dimension to the crop progress figures. In the southeast, cropland topsoil was reported as 90 per cent adequate, with 9 per cent surplus and 1 per cent short; pasture was 94 per cent adequate and hayland 91 per cent. Southwest ratings were drier: 26 per cent of hayland and 34 per cent of pasture were short, with another 4 and 6 per cent respectively very short. In the east-central region, the table records 12 millimetres around Foam Lake and 7 millimetres near Calder. The report cautions that these are area-condition ratings and localized rainfall observations, not a province-wide measure of stored water.\n\nThe western and northern tables likewise show why the aggregate moisture percentage needs geographic context. West-central cropland was 76 per cent adequate and 23 per cent short. In the northwest, hayland and pasture were each 80 per cent adequate and 20 per cent short; reported rainfall included 4 millimetres near Parkdale and 3 millimetres near North Battleford. Northeast feed-grain ratings were 36 per cent surplus and 64 per cent adequate. These observations sit alongside the provincial winter-feed ratings, which refer to producers’ assessment of feed condition and availability. They are not interchangeable with soil moisture or with measured quantities of stored hay and grain.\n\nThe report’s map is a smoothed representation of harvest progress, rather than a boundary-by-boundary inventory. Its notes say interpolation uses inverse-distance weighting with a power of 2.5 and a fixed 300-kilometre radius. The agency warns that smoothing can alter local values and says the map is intended for regional analysis. This matters when readers compare a mapped colour with a division-level percentage: the map communicates a broad spatial pattern and is not a precise reading for an individual farm. The underlying table and its stated reporting period remain the relevant reference for the published estimates.\n\nThe published harvest percentage is a measure of field progress, not the share of a crop that has met a commercial grade or a measure of tonnes brought in. The provincial harvest tables distinguish crops combined for grain from crops harvested as feed, and also include categories for crop still standing, in swath, ready to straight-combine and other damage or weather effects. A regional comparison therefore needs to keep those categories and the report’s definition of harvest in view. The October 13–19 release gives crop completion and damage causes, but it does not report grain-grade results, yields or production totals for this week. Those measures cannot be inferred from the 97 per cent completion figure.\n\nFull Arabic, French, Spanish, German and Portuguese translations and data labels were added.","title":"Saskatchewan harvest reaches 97% completion","topics":[],"translations":[{"api_url":"https://newsverum.com/api/v1/articles/saskatchewan-harvest-progress-october-22-2026?lang=tr","language":"tr","url":"https://newsverum.com/tr/news/saskatchewan-harvest-progress-october-22-2026"},{"api_url":"https://newsverum.com/api/v1/articles/saskatchewan-harvest-progress-october-22-2026?lang=en","language":"en","url":"https://newsverum.com/en/news/saskatchewan-harvest-progress-october-22-2026"},{"api_url":"https://newsverum.com/api/v1/articles/saskatchewan-harvest-progress-october-22-2026?lang=ar","language":"ar","url":"https://newsverum.com/ar/news/saskatchewan-harvest-progress-october-22-2026"},{"api_url":"https://newsverum.com/api/v1/articles/saskatchewan-harvest-progress-october-22-2026?lang=fr","language":"fr","url":"https://newsverum.com/fr/news/saskatchewan-harvest-progress-october-22-2026"},{"api_url":"https://newsverum.com/api/v1/articles/saskatchewan-harvest-progress-october-22-2026?lang=es","language":"es","url":"https://newsverum.com/es/news/saskatchewan-harvest-progress-october-22-2026"},{"api_url":"https://newsverum.com/api/v1/articles/saskatchewan-harvest-progress-october-22-2026?lang=de","language":"de","url":"https://newsverum.com/de/news/saskatchewan-harvest-progress-october-22-2026"},{"api_url":"https://newsverum.com/api/v1/articles/saskatchewan-harvest-progress-october-22-2026?lang=pt","language":"pt","url":"https://newsverum.com/pt/news/saskatchewan-harvest-progress-october-22-2026"}],"url":"https://newsverum.com/en/news/saskatchewan-harvest-progress-october-22-2026"},"version":"1"}
